Sukhum is the capital of the Republic of Abkhazia and one of the oldest cities in the world. The history of the city dates back to more than 2500 years, and it changed different names within this time: Dioskuriada, Sebastopolis, Sukhum-Kale.

The city is located in the central part of the republic of Abkhazia on the Black Sea coast, on the banks of the Sukhum bay in 107 kilometres from the Russian border.
